Windows Mobile Marketplace now available for download

image Microsoft has released their version of “The App Store”. Windows Marketplace for Mobile is available for download here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/get-marketplace.mspx

Windows Marketplace for Mobile download works on Windows Mobile 6.0 and Windows Mobile 6.1 devices. Windows Marketplace for Mobile is already installed on Windows Mobile 6.5 devices, so there is no need to download it. How does it compare with Apple’s App Store? Well, the Windows Marketplace for Mobile only has a few apps right now, but the really cool part is that you get a 24 hour money back guarantee on apps purchased from the marketplace. Now that is sweet! Score one for Microsoft!

How to: Synchronize OneNote 2007 with your SharePoint MySite

I’ve been a fan of OneNote for several years. I like how easily I can capture some information without worrying about file names or explicitly saving data. Now I’ve found another reason to love OneNote: I can synchronize all of my notebooks across multiple computers via my SharePoint MySite.

  1. File / New / Notebook

  2. Multiple people will share the notebook / On a server

  3. Url to your MySite (or any SharePoint site)
    image

  4. Select a document library (your notebook will be created in a sub folder based on the name of the notebook)
    image

  5. The full Url will be “<Url of SharePoint site>/<document library Url>/<name of the notebook>”
    image

  6. The notebook files are unpacked to a cached folder on your local computer

  7. OneNote refreshes with the newly created notebook shown and synchronized.

  8. Clicking the sync icon next to the new notebook’s name opens the Shared Notebook Synchronization dialog box. You can initiate an explicit syncronization from this dialog box. This is generally only required if you have an intermittent connection to SharePoint.

  9. OneNote with a notebook synchronization in progress.

  10. The notebook in the SharePoint document library.

That’s it. In just a few mouse clicks all of your notes can be available on your varied computers, synchronized through SharePoint. Best of all, you are in control. IT does not need to do anything on the SharePoint server in order to enable this functionality.

TechNet & MSDN Subscribers: Download SharePoint Server 2010 beta today

Happy day, oh happy day: the SharePoint 2010 beta is now available for download to Microsoft MSDN and TechNet subscribers. The PTA Team Blog for Belgium & Luxembourg has more details, including links to the Office 2010 beta. Follow these download links for SharePoint 2010.

SharePoint Foundation 2010 beta (formerly called Windows SharePoint Server (WSS), free with Windows Server):

SharePoint Server 2010 beta (formerly called Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS), requires both server and client access licenses):

SharePoint 2010 is officially supported on Windows Server 2008 x64. SharePoint 2010 is 64-bit only. No 32-bit version exists, not even for development. If you need to spin up a 64-bit virtual machine, you must use Microsoft Hyper-V. No other Microsoft virtualization technology supports creating 64-bit virtual machines. Hyper-V requires Windows Server 2008 or later. If you want a desktop virtualization technology that supports 64-bit virtual machines, I recommend VMware Workstation, recently updated to version 7. Read my post on creating 64-bit virtual machines for more details.

Looking on getting started but don’t want or can’t spin up a Windows Server 2008 machine? No problem, use this MSDN article that shows how to install SharePoint 2010 including on Windows Vista or Windows 7. Just remember that whether you are installing SharePoint 2010 on Windows Server, Windows Vista, or Windows 7, SharePoint 2010 is 64-bit only.
